Nothing destroys a bond of trust like breaking a promise. There is something inherent in a promise that speaks to the essence of one's character. There was a time when your word was your bond. In the helther skelter pace of today's world, most people easily forget what they said and look for ways to renege on promises. Legal contracts are used for everything. For example when a marriage vow was given there wasn't a need for a contract. I do was suppose to mean I do until death do us part. But I do seems to sometimes mean only until I engage in another relationship and the assets I have stay with me. How tragic working relationships and/or loving relationships have been reduced to contracts because people so easily break promises.
David is praying to The Lord in 2 Samuel 7:25-26 (NIV), "And now, Lord God, keep forever the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house. Do as you promised, so that your name will be great forever. Then people will say'The Lord Almighty is God over Israel!" And the house of your servant David will be established in your sight."
The blessing in having a relationship with God is that He keeps His promises towards you. Will you keep your promise with Him?
