A friend of mine once said, "We met on this day a year ago. It's our anniversary!" I remember significant days within my family. I remember birthdays, anniversaries, wedding days, graduation years, and days when a love one has passed. But, do you remember the day when you met a dear friend?
Life is so short and friends are so few, we should never take those relationships for granted. It is rare for childhood friends to remain friends as adults. If you retain those childhood friends can your relationship mature and deepen as the years go marching by?
Treasure those moments one spends with a friend. Establish an anniversary day and communicate with them the importance and significance they mean to your life. We are affirmed in relationships. We find love in relationships. We learn confidentiality in relationships. We have companionship in relationships. Ultimately we discover God in relationship.
The wisdom literature of Proverbs emphasizes the importance of intimate friendships. Verse 17:17 says, "A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." Verse 18:24 reminds us, "A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother."
Have you found a true friend? Try Jesus! The songwriter says, "There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus. No not one! No not one!"
